Please Vote, Flist. Please?
Mar. 9th, 2010 10:00 pmMy fellow flist. I once again find myself requesting a mere moment of your time. In case you were wondering, Scully made it to the elite eight, so first off, major thanks to all of you who voted for the awesomeness of your heart.
I suppose I could break out into an emotional plea for the epicness that is Dana Scully and all of the excellent strong female characters that came after her, but I don't think that's necessary. I think all of you know that part of your love of redheads is because of Dana Scully or Ariel (as in the little mermaid).
And yea, I know that a bunch of you are Joss Whedon friends and are probably gonna vote for Buffy Summers as she was a good part of your childhood. And she was part of a show which had your favorite character and you've followed the work of Joss Whedon. You know, voting for someone who represents all of the fandom.
But still, I gotta ask. If Dr. Dana Scully was ever someone that you looked up to. Someone you would gladly go out with a drink for. Someone who persuaded you to consider a career in medicine. Someone who made you realize that being a nerd wasn't something that would get you teased, but rather help you out in the long run. If Scully was ever anything like that for you, then I have to ask that you consider voting for her.
To me, she was more than some random chick on tv, and really, I took a lot of pride as a kid explaining that The X-Files was my favorite show when others might have answered Dawson's Creek or Roswell or whatever was currently hip on the WB. The X-Files dealt Scully some hard blows, and she always came out of them stronger. Parents death? Check. Sister assascinated? Check. Abducted? Check. Cancer? Check. Losing a child? Check.
Guys. If there's one thing that Dana Scully taught all of us, it's that you, yes, you sitting in front of your computer screen, you can survive whatever life chucks at you. Even when you feel you're all alone in your suffering, you are still the touchstone of someone's life. You're still the reason why someone keeps going with their daily tasks. And never think you don't matter, because your example makes it easier to keep going.
I know, I'm rambling. I know most of you are fans of Buffy. And she probably means Joss Whedon so you'll be supporting him. I'm just asking that for those who have ever found inspiration in Dana Scully, for whatever reason, to vote for the fictional character we all wanted to grow up to be.

PS. That Buffy Summers or Laura Roslin action figure you have? Before Dana Scully, it would've been a barbie doll. Just a thought when it comes down to voting for superheroes. ;)

Mar. 7th, 2010 03:12 amDear F-List,
I know a lot of you are products of the Brits, and not like us filthy Americans. I know that Dr. Who is a staple in your countries because, "DUH! He's the Doctor!". I also know that Donna Noble may very well be your most favorite companion. Now, I've no doubt I would feel as passionate as you on the matter, had I continued to watch as most of you did.
However, I'm here to talk to you about my childhood. Well, briefly. Once upon a time, I was a itty bitty 8 year old. And that itty bitty eight year old went ahead and saw The X-Files with her dad. And she realized that little girls can too kick the collective ass of evil. And get the hot nerdy guy. Why am I telling you this? Because I know that most of you have watched Battlestar Galactica. I know you've watched it and you think that either Laura Roslin or Kara Thrace are the queen bitches of the universe. But ask yourself this, would you still think that they were, had you not had Dana Scully to bring you up in your childhood?
Would you still think it were ok for little girls to grow up to be doctors had you not seen this most epic example? Would you think that a petite woman would be able to look hot, be smart AND kick ass? Would you think that two people, without any special "powers" or abilities would help stop the world from ending and make you so obsessed with finding the truth? Hell, would you even be in fandom?! Would I even know you, if at such a young age you too didn't seek to learn of others like you, whom truly loved a character and held her as a role model? No one can say for certain, but I do know this. Dana Scully deserves our support. So if you haven't already done so, please, please, please. Go vote for Dana Scully @
f_march_madness. And if you've voted for Donna, please consider the woman that made you realize that girls on TV didn't have to be damsels in distress.

Ergo, F-List, click on the text link that follows to get to the nomination thread. AND AGREE. It's simple.
