My flist keeps talking about the twelvecolonies thing & it's making me really want to check it out. What's it all about?

Pretty much, it's a competition between fangirls and fanboys of a specific fandom. Like you said, twelvecolonies deals with Battlestar Galactica while like whedonland deals with anything Joss Whedon.

You're sorted into a team and from there, you help your team complete challenges that can span from making a header to writing a six word fic to playing bingo to most anything really.

It's cool because you get to goof off with peeps inside your fandom of choice that usually have at least one thing in common with you. They wanted to be on your team.

It's really fun. I'm in at least three, and that's after having to cut some down thanks to time constraints.

That sounds like fun! I don't think I'm quite creative/skilled enough to contribute though, which is a shame.
