That's how I roll, personally. Because when you have spud66cat, splodge04, and caramelapples11 all managing to make GORGEOUS icons on a challenge known as CURSE OF THE BAD CAP, those are skills. Also, I wanted to pimp this community because it seems like a really cool concept. LIMS of the golden age of the silver screen [i.e. "The Classics"] Plus, there seems to be a need for participants, so there's a greater chance to practice the iconning. And practice makes perfect. :)

I have a newbie lims question. Can you vote if you are not participating? And haven't even friended the comm? I've wanted to vote but only thought participants (and ones with more icon knowledge than I) could vote. Just a general lims question. Maybe each comm has different rules?

While I believe that each community does have a different set of rules, I don't believe that you would have to be a member of these specific communities to vote.

Friending the comm makes it easier for you to keep up with the updates, which I happen to really enjoy. Perhaps watching the community if you don't want to join it? :)

As for voting and icon knowledge, I've never seen a community where a vote wouldn't be counted UNLESS you participated. Because they're asking for your opinion. And if what you don't like about an icon is that it's "too dark", you can just say that. It's the reason why you wouldn't use the icon, or you would be less likely to pick it up than another one.

Thanks, that was very helpful. I just voted! I'm really shy in new comms. And I do feel bad saying what I don't like. I want to say only good things! But I guess that's not too helpful to iconists, huh? So I did vote. I have to say I like the ones where it's just a poll, though. Again, shy people might not vote much. Just wait for the icony goodness. :-)

Do iconists post their entries on their journals? Even if they don't win, someone might like them and want to use them. It is fun seeing all the shiny entries in one place. I will keep on the lookout for some of them.

I think everyone's sorta shy in new comms, but that's where friendships are formed. So I dig them. :D

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!! I feel horrible telling someone what I don't like about their icons, because HAI! icons are made with whatever you decided to experiement in that moment. Or whatever feeling you wanted to convey. So I don't like saying what I didn't like and leaving it at that. I let them know what I think would've helped the icon reach it's potential. Because I figure I would appreciate that sort of comment, whereas the other one, I'd shudder over.

I know that some iconnists post their entries on their journals (personal, graphics, communities, etc.), but if you can't find a specific one, I know that comms generally open up the submission thread so that you can see who did what, and whose stuff you can snag. [I would check their journals just in case first, and if it's not there, message them and ask for permission first.]

I just started posting mine here. I actually have some of July, but that post is my eyes only right now, since it has icons that I submitted in competitions recently, and they aren't supposed to be posted until voting is done. :)

Thanks for your reply, I thought it was only me! I will think more on how to help the iconists improve but honestly, some iconists are really good. I don't have any tips! Your icon is great, just not my style!

Hee! Speaking of great icons that are my style, I just saw you won round 30 at karastillness. Yay! Did you put up those icons yet? It was funny, I was going back to earlier rounds only to find the ones I liked had won and then to found that you had made them!

I say it a lot but they really are lovely. And cheer me up, even when I'm already feeling happy. And hey, Kara. I can never have too many Kara icons. :-)

I've often found that it's usually not 'only me'. Lots of people go through similar emotions, fears, etc. Morale of the story, there's people that get what's going on. Well, I think it's more like "Your icon doesn't have what appeals to me, because...". Think of it like feedback. Helping to polish the pretty gem of one's artistic ability.

LOL. That was very unexpected. But I'm glad that you like my icons. And I thought it was kinda funny that my icons were tied. With themselves. No such thing as sibling rivalry. :)

That post is hidden, only because of the table where I put them has the ones I entered in some icon contests this round.

Yay, for sibling rivalry! Funny, you were the only one who knew. But I guess same parent or no, there can be only one per round, huh?

More Kara, yay!!!! And I like the mini-Tigh in the background of the first one. Nearly missed him. Yeah, Kara screams a lot. But this season they gave her the Migraines of Destiny so it wasn't her fault. She is a yeller, though. I miss her yelling commands in her viper. Nothing cooler than Kara flying. :-)

Thanks for telling me more about icons. I have always liked them but when voting (particularly in the lims) I had to really think why I do. Hmm. I'll check back for Kara-goodness soon. (Um, and I'm taking the winner icon and saving it for the right comment or post. :-))

Voting is FUN! I love seeing how you get different icons from the same images. The ones that stand out, those are usually the ones I go for. :)

And I love funny icons! I wish I could do that with all of them, since humor is such a big part of everyone's life, but I figure people would think I've gone mad and decide not to vote for it. :)
